Although we’ve been here for over a month now, this was (believe it or not) our first weekend in Shanghai to do whatever we wanted and check out the city. We originally had all kinds of plans, but most of them never happened. lol. Instead, I went to a friend’s bridal shower and we got a group haircut (details below).

The bridal shower was held at Laris, known as one of the best restaurants in Shanghai and is located on the infamous Bund. Believe it or not this was my first time seeing it. By the way, yes—that is smog. Welcome to Shanghai!

The guest of honor, Wei Ling. :-)

Shireen sucking it up and helping Wei out with her shots of Kamikaze. Now that’s friendship!
Congrats to Wei Ling and Jason…. enjoy Thailand!
Saturday night, Rob and I met up with a friend of a friend of a friend (what can I say… that’s expat living I guess). :-) He’s a promoter for Potocki Vodka, which is new to China, and he invited us to one of his events. We don’t have any pictures from that night, but we enjoyed meeting new people (including Mr. Potocki, himself) and also going to a new bar. It’s always fun to check out new places.
Sunday, we actually got a haircut at a local salon. Rob and I were both getting a bit desperate for a haircut, but were nervous about how it would work given the language barrier. Luckily, it turned out a lot of our friends need a haircut at the same time, so Wei organized a group outing! It was pretty hysterical walking into a salon with 6 people, only two of which speak Chinese.
Despite our concerns, we all had a pretty successful experience! For about $35, Rob and I both got a full service haircut. Pretty good, eh? Rob’s haircut was a pretty big hit with the group, so I decided to snap a few shots. Not sure if you can tell from the pics, but he kinda had a pop star look going. Pretty funny….

Me, in the salon chair. Luckily, my stylist was from HK, so he spoke English. :-)

My husband, the pop star. :-)

Kinda mohawky, no?
These last two pics are of a “quiet” day on the subway…. can you imagine what rush hour is like? Those aren’t exactly my favorite Shanghai moments…. ha!

Rob literally just walked in the door from his most recent trip to HK to get his work visa. He should have some new photos to post from his trip soon.
Bye for now!

Love hearing how you’re manuvering thru the “normal” activities of life. getting a haircut is important & love the pop star look on Rob. How’d your cut do? btw, what do I need to do about Cooper’s face wrinkles. She & Evy have been getting infrequent brushings & when they slobber all over ea. other they get a little smelly
Right now they’re patiently awaiting their venture outside. Sorry, it’s bright & sunny here. Wind’s gone & we should have great weather this wkend.
I think his haircut is pretty chic…….
I really miss you Ashley…..i am glad you guys are getting familiar

Pretty brave for two young wipper snappers.
